From totems to teapots, the wild
and whimsical world of crafts
A WETA-TV original pilot on fine crafts produced in cooperation with American Style magazine. The program features talented, eccentric and quality driven artists whose work brings pleasure into our homes and into our lives.
Hosted and narrated by Martin Mull, the half-hour,magazine-style program features the Smithsonian Craft Show at the National Building Museum; "Masters of the Medium" award winners Sam Maloof, Albert Paley and Harvey Littleton presented by the James Renwick Alliance; the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, Virginia;
ceramic artist Kathy Amt at home in Washington, D.C. and the KaplansÐa family of collectors in Maryland.
Field produced profiles connect the
community, commerce and culture of crafts. Five segments were shot in seven days, one with two cameras, plus host stand-up, with original score by Roger Piantadosi. The program was aired in the Washington, DC metroplolitan area on the PBS affiliate station WETA-TV, and nominated for a local Emmy award.
